Adult Children Of Dysfunctional Families Group

Adult Children Of Dysfunctional Families Group

Led by Tehilla Luttig, LMHC, this telehealth group is designed for individuals who grew up in dysfunctional homes (read this for more).

This is not group therapy, but a group designed to coach you through thinking about and dealing with issues Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families face!

Next dates for this group will be announced here soon!

  • Did your parent(s) struggle with depression, substance abuse, anxiety, traits of Narcissistic or Borderline Personality Disorder, and/or a conflictual or unhappy marriage?

  • Do you feel like your upbringing stopped you from learning what "normal" is?

  • Are you sometimes angry or disappointed in yourself that you can't just "get over" your experiences as a kid?

  • Do you still struggle with interactions with your family members today, and/or have you gone low/no contact and struggle with this?

  • Do you feel that you are constantly seeing links between your childhood and your current functioning, in relationships, as a parent, at work, and more, and this is frustrating and upsetting?

  • Does your partner, who grew up differently, sometimes not understand why some things are so hard for you, despite you seeming so "normal" most of the time?

This group is for anyone that any of above statements resonate with, from those who grew up in chaotic alcoholic families to those who grew up in families where the emotional neglect was more hidden.

We will work on discussing your experiences in a group atmosphere, understanding the lasting impact of childhood stress on later functioning, developing self-compassion and self-acceptance, boundary setting and healthy communication of needs, understanding emotional neglect, "parentification," and other dynamics that occur in dysfunctional families, and develop concrete skills to manage ongoing relationships with family members.

Participants have good things to say about this group:

Thank you for putting together the dysfunctional family group. It was a well thought out presentation and my biggest takeaway was standing by my decision to create a boundary with my husband and stick to it. You helped me focus on how my body was reacting to my triggers, and this made me more aware to navigate away from old patterns, I’m not perfect at it, but it is a big start and new direction for my marriage. The course was so well-detailed, and the journal prompts and layout of different family dynamics was informative. The worksheets were very helpful and that is what stood out to me that placed this course above par then any group I have ever been a part of in the past. Tehilla has a very inviting and calm approach that makes it so easy to share. I would recommend your class to those who are struggling or even those who just wish to understand more about their family of origin. This group coaching session gets a 10 from me. - JS
