Dr. Rebecca Burnheimer

Dr. Rebecca Burnheimer is a compassionate, understanding, and highly skilled licensed counseling psychologist with over 15 years of experience providing therapy, assessment, and evaluation. She uses an integrative, evidence-based approach in her therapeutic work with clients to find the most effective, personalized method to facilitate change, growth, and success.

 

Dr. Burnheimer is a deep thinker and able to quickly assess your situation and effectively cultivate insight into your struggles. Individuals ages 16+, couples, and families can schedule with her.

Dr. Burnheimer is highly trained and educated, and draws from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Therapy. She is a trauma specialist and can treat both PTSD and C-PTSD.

In her work with couples, Dr. Burnheimer uses Gottman techniques, emotion-focused, imago, cognitive-behavioral methods and more. She specializes in improving communication and understanding, reconnecting in intimacy, repairing trust after relationship ruptures and trauma, substance abuse, managing mental health conditions, parenting strategies, and value differences.

Dr. Burnheimer is our assessment and evaluation specialist at Best Life. She has extensive training and experience with diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder, mood disorders, personality disorders, developmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum disorder), and neurocognitive disorders (i.e., dementia with etiology). She has also conducted a range of psychological readiness evaluations. She provides adult ADHD and autism spectrum evaluations all virtually for Best Life, starting at $2850 for multiple meetings and report writing.

 

​Dr. Burnheimer says, “The way that we perceive and assign meaning to events determines how we feel, and ultimately, how we experience our lives and relationships. I help my clients identify generational patterns and recognize that they can choose how to experience life, allowing them to create positivity in areas previously full of pain and struggle.”​ Some of her favorite books related to therapy include The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, Fight Right: How Successful Couples Turn Conflict into Connection by Julie Schwartz Gottman, and The Mountain is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage into Self-Mastery by Brianna Wiest.

Outside of work, Dr. Burnheimer enjoys spending time with her partner, teenage daughter, and two Boston Terriers. She lives in central Pennsylvania (Let’s Go PSU!!) and loves seeing friends, taking her dogs for walks, singing, making crafts, and traveling.
