Ben primarily uses the lenses of Crucible therapy and Gestalt, two strengths-based modalities he finds personally and professionally empowering. Both take a holistic view of the complex dynamics within relationships — working with those dynamics rather than against them to support lasting growth.
In addition to normal 45-minute sessions, Ben offers longer 90-minute intensives for clients who really want to dive deep in a compressed fashion.
With individuals, Ben focuses on developing self-awareness, identifying inherited relationship patterns, and building the capacity for deeper, more authentic connection. With couples, he helps partners move past projections and obstacles toward greater intimacy.
Ben says: "I believe that being human is a developmental process. While a lot of the development comes naturally, we are all faced with obstacles that take clarity, courage, and deliberate effort to overcome. In my own life, I’ve experienced more joy and greater confidence as I’ve faced challenges head on, and I love guiding clients through the process of harnessing the courage it takes to improve their lives. My approach to therapy is to help people see clearly what is in their way and do what it takes to move toward the life they want."
Ben is also running a men's group. His passion for groups developed from seeing the satisfaction people get with being able to connect with one another, not just with their significant others. In groups, individuals have the opportunity to address their own obstacles towards connecting in real time with others, despite their differences. He believes that people feel better about themselves when they have direct experience overcoming their own challenges in relating with others.
Ben began his career in mental health in 2012 working with young people in wilderness therapy in the Colorado mountains. There he witnessed firsthand how family systems shape the way we relate to others — and how awareness of those patterns can unlock meaningful change.
Inspired by that work, he pursued his MSW at Smith College School for Social Work, then trained in Gestalt therapy at the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies. His own couples therapy journey deepened his commitment to this work and ultimately led to his passion for working with couples. A book Ben often recommends to clients is Intimacy & Desire by David Schnarch.
Ben currently lives in Maine with his wife and daughter. Outside the office he enjoys mountain biking, spending time by the ocean, camping, fishing, learning new languages, and developing carpentry skills.
