Jess' past experiences include working as a school counselor, which allows her to connect to preteens through adults, and has given her extensive experience with families and parenting issues.

The approaches that Jess draws from include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), positive psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS; this is called "parts work" frequently), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment theory, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, intuitive eating, and Family Systems therapy. Her experiences include private practice and having worked as a school counselor. Jess is also interested in nutrition and sports.

One book that informs Jess' treatment approach, and that she recommends to clients frequently, is When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times by Pema Chodron. Jess loves to run groups and is offering a grief and loss group regularly, which you can find here.

Jess says, "Therapy is a space where there are no other distractions or interruptions, a space where you can take your time and not feel rushed to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My goal as a therapist is to help you feel truly understood, and to set goals to improve your well being.

"I'm here to support you, to challenge you, to empower you, and to root for you as you go through this process. My approach to therapy also includes a good dose of practicality and humor! I look forward to working with you."

Raised in Northern Virginia, Jess returned to that area with her husband and two beloved dogs after many years of living in DC. She is an outdoors enthusiast and loves hiking, backpacking, exploring local trails with her dogs, and cycling. She is also a competitive rower with her local rowing club.  Schedule with Jess today!
