Adam Brown, LCSW-C/LICSW

Adam Brown, LCSW, is a warm, engaged and experienced therapist with an extensive clinical background. Adam's specialties include individuals working through trauma including historical/intergenerational trauma, Adult Children of Alcoholics, families of alcoholics/addicts, bereavement, ADHD, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, depression, personality disorders (including Narcissistic and Borderline personality disorders), relationship issues, men experiencing divorce, etc. One of the books that informs Adam's perspective on therapy is The Body Keeps The Score, the classic on trauma by Bessel Van Der Kolk.

Adam identifies as sex-positive and says, "We are interconnected emotional beings and how we express ourselves (or not) through sex and masturbation is an important aspect of how we show up in the world as people." He draws from a range of treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solutions-focused therapy, and narrative therapy. He utilizes a systems lens for couples and families.

Adam says, "In therapy, the bedrock foundational element most consistently linked to success across treatment modalities is the therapeutic alliance. That’s a fancy way of saying that without trust, support and clear communication between the therapist and client, very little work can be accomplished. As a therapist I will work to form a partnership with you in which you supported enough to define and achieve your treatment goals. From my experience sitting in both the clinician’s chair and on the client couch, successful therapeutic interventions are part process and part product. I am excited to begin this journey with you.”

A native of West Virginia, Adam has called Washington, DC home for the past decade. He is a proud member of the recovery community and recently became engaged to the love of his life. In the summer months, Adam can be found at the ballpark cheering on the Washington Nationals. Schedule with Adam today!
